The Bronx based Hip Hop group Rebel Diaz were scheduled for a paid performance at the Creative Time Summit being held in NY on October 12-13. Rebel Diaz pulled out of performing after finding out the event was in partnership with the Israeli Center for Digital Arts which is funded by the Israeli government. The brothers released a statement on youtube stating why they decided it was the right thing to do and their support of the Palestinian struggle.
This is what they had to say on their facebook page:
Later on today, Friday October 12th we were supposed to perform at The Creative Time Summit at NYU, we were alerted by various Palestinian comrades of ours that they were in a partnership with the Israeli Center for Digital Art, a group funded directly by the Israeli Ministry of Culture and Sports, an org thats sole purpose is to clean up the image of Israel on an international level. Here’s our response and explanation on why we pulled back from the Summit. Free Palestine!
